Update Installer

The Jet "Professional" installer is complicated. People don't know what is required and what is not required. I am constantly getting asked to give assistance to people who have been using Jet for years. They simply stop on the first screens because they don't know which checkboxes. Then they are presented to add a bunch of information that isn't required but that it isn't made clear in the installer. Plus they don't want to look anything up.

Could we add links to KB articles or give them more information on the screens to make the decision?

I think in the process of simplifying the installation process, we made it somewhat complicated. Users see the boxes and check ALL and then get stuck if they can't continue because they are being forced to enter specific server, port information that they have no clue what those are.

I think adding specific and applicable KB links would go a long way to alleviating the confusion that a lot of users encounter on the installation option screen.

Maybe even callout the Enterprise install options so that non-Enterprise customers won't select options that are not applicable to what they purchased.

Hi Sarah,  I'd agree with you that this experience could be made simpler for the user.  I think it would be better to simplify things in the installer than to add clarifying instructions in a KB article.

I'd like to sit down with you to see about making this simpler.

I've attached screenshots of the installer process (so if anyone else is looking at this, please feel free to offer suggestions for specific improvements).

    Thanks,

    Steve
