Do you want to play a crucial role in shaping Jet Global products?
For adding new fields to the tables I just need to rightlick on the table in the staging area or on the appropriate table in the data warehouse to switch directly to the source table (Business Unit. -> Data Sources). I then don't have to search manually for the table. This should just be a small issue to solve I hope, but keeps the frustration level and the margin of error low.
Thank you
Hello Johannes, thanks for the input! I'll be sure to pass this along to our Technical Content Manager so he can get some of the documentation updated. I think that making this more discoverable would be the best solution as well, it's not a great user experience to right-click in one place and to have to SHIFT+right-click in another to do essentially the same thing. Have a great weekend!
Hello Brian,
this is awesome! I'm torn apart between joy and disappointment. Joy, because the function I was looking for is already there. Disappointment, because I didn't try myself to shift+right click, as this is a more or less common windows feature for additional functions. Also: Please mention this somewhere! I didn't find anything about it in any of my documents regarding Jet Data Manager documentation, neither in any User Guides nor the training sessions I received did not even cover this (as far as I remember). The online knowledge base doesn't seem to mention this as well. This would have been helpful already in many cases and still will be.
Thank you for telling me!
Hello Johannes,
This is actually possible as well, it just isn't as discoverable and this is something that I will work with the engineering team on. From the DWH to the Stage you can right click as we mentioned before. To go from Stage to the Data Source (for either tables or fields) you can SHIFT + Right Click and get a slightly separate set of menu options, including the "Go to Source Field" option. I have attached screen shots of this working on both a table and a field in the staging database. I hope that this addresses your immediate need
Hello Kim, thank you for your answer. I must have not described my idea clearly enough. Sorry.
I'm aware of the possibility to use the function that you show on your post. I want the same function for the tables in the Staging Area / Business Units. The function you show points from the data warehouse to the tables in the staging area. I want a function that points from the tables in the staging area to the source tables (data source, (NAV) connectors, etc.). I created and attached a concept visual for you. This is the main idea.
Ideas that are based on the described function:
You could implement this not only on a table basis, but on a field basis. A default field from a table could point directly to the source field of this table in the data sources. Or a lookup field could point to its source. This of course is a more complex task and for a start a realization of the main idea would be sufficient.
Please let me know, if you have any more questions.
Hello Johannes, since it is possible for a table in the data warehouse to be sourced from multiple tables in the business unit, you will actually want to expand one of the fields in the table and then you can right click the copy movement and select "Go To Source Field" which will take you directly to that field in the business unit. I have attached a screenshot for your reference.
